What to do in a Pet Emergency

Basic First-Aid Strategies Can Be Helpful

To stabilize your pet for transport, basic first-aid strategies may help. Once you feel confident transporting your pet, get to our Mechanicsburg veterinary hospital immediately. Call ahead if you can.

    • Strategies for Dogs

Slowly and calmly approach your dog, kneel down and call their name. If there is any indication of aggression back away and call for help. If your pet seems passive, construct a makeshift stretcher and gently lift him or her onto it supporting the neck and back areas.

    • Strategies for Cats

To help prevent your cat from biting if they experience pain as you stabilize them, gently place a blanket or towel over the head. Slowly lift the cat and place him or her in an open-topped carrier or box, supporting the head and neck area carefully.

Continuing Care After The Emergency

Our experienced veterinary team is here to see you through a pet emergency. When it's time to return to your primary veterinarian for post-emergency and ongoing care, we'll ensure that they have access to our records of the care we have provided for your pet.

  • We took our cat to Rossmoyne last weekend. He was seen quickly and he received attentive and compassionate care throughout his inpatient stay. We appreciated the phone updates we received from the team of vets taking care of him. Our experience with Rossmoyne was very positive.

  • A good clean place, nice and caring stuff. Sounds like they would go an extra mile to help. Normally no to very little wait. Been there two times and both times the doctors and personnel were very helpful.

  • Just wanted to give a shout-out and a very big thank you to the team at Rossmoyne. My pup was attacked by another dog and needed stitches. She’s awful at the vet and can be very aggressive. The staff at Rossmoyne was so understanding and patient with her needs! We ended up having to do two follow up visits for additional staples and then staple/stitch removal - while the first visit was appropriately priced, they did her second visit for next to nothing and then her removal for free. The doctors and techs were so kind and I cannot say enough good things about them!
