What to do in a Pet Emergency
Basic First-Aid Strategies Can Be Helpful
To stabilize your pet for transport, basic first-aid strategies may help. Once you feel confident transporting your pet, get to our Mechanicsburg veterinary hospital immediately. Call ahead if you can.
- Strategies for Dogs
Slowly and calmly approach your dog, kneel down and call their name. If there is any indication of aggression back away and call for help. If your pet seems passive, construct a makeshift stretcher and gently lift him or her onto it supporting the neck and back areas.
- Strategies for Cats
To help prevent your cat from biting if they experience pain as you stabilize them, gently place a blanket or towel over the head. Slowly lift the cat and place him or her in an open-topped carrier or box, supporting the head and neck area carefully.

Just wanted to thank the staff for their wonderful service and compassion. We had our dog there this past Friday evening and unfortunately what went from a suspected less serious injury turned into a multitude of a few serious issues we had to put her down. The staff was absolutely wonderful during the whole process and we very much appreciated it. Well done ladies and thank you for your excellent service during a very emotional time.
Just wanted to give a shout-out and a very big thank you to the team at Rossmoyne. My pup was attacked by another dog and needed stitches. She’s awful at the vet and can be very aggressive. The staff at Rossmoyne was so understanding and patient with her needs! We ended up having to do two follow up visits for additional staples and then staple/stitch removal - while the first visit was appropriately priced, they did her second visit for next to nothing and then her removal for free. The doctors and techs were so kind and I cannot say enough good things about them!
The staff and vets could not have been any more kind, compassionate, or professional. They were quick and caring. They took excellent care of my puppy, and their prices were more than reasonable. Thank so much to excellent people here!
